Man builds wooden gym in his garden just in time for lockdown

Lockdown is upon us once again, and just like earlier in the year gyms are among the businesses affected – bad news for exercise buffs.

If you’ve been relying on your workouts to keep you sane this year, you’re not alone, but it looks like exercising at home and going out for runs will again become the norm in the coming weeks.

What you could do is follow the lead of this Ohio man who, faced with his gym closing, took matters (as well as a saw) into his own hands and built a gym entirely from wood.

Zachary Skidmore, who works as a part-time personal trainer and was formerly a US Army police officer, made his gym entirely from timber and included everything from a bench press and leg press to a rowing machine.

Other features of the gym include a cable crossover, a hamstring curl machine, dumbbells, and barbells – there’s almost everything you need for a full-body workout.

Zachary revealed on Facebook that the gym took him around 60 hours over the course of two weeks to build altogether, and he’s coined the name ‘Lumber Jacked Gym’ for his new workout zone.

He wrote on Facebook: ‘So my gym closed. So I grabbed a chainsaw and went to work.

‘I built what I’m calling “Lumber Jacked Gym” in around 60 hours over the span of two weeks. I managed to satisfy my hunger to work out. I hope you enjoy!’

Of course, the UK’s current lockdown is planned to end at the start of December, so you might be able to resume your gym sessions in just a few weeks.

Should restrictions not be eased, however, you might decide to follow in Zachary’s footsteps and dig up old memories from your secondary school woodwork lessons.

Even just building the gym would give you a good workout.
