Hair loss is often just a part of getting older. But new studies are constantly being done to help with the search of a wonder oil which could halt this process and aid hair growth. According to research, cedarwood oil may be the answer.
Cedarwood essential oil is derived from the needles, leaves, bark and berries of the cedar tree.
While cedarwood can be purchased on its own, it’s often one of the many ingredients that’s put into products including shampoos and deodorants.
Cedarwood is one of several essential oils that may improve a person’s hair growth. How?
In a study published in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, randomised trials of aromatherapy and its treatment for alopecia was investigated.
The study noted: “Eighty-six patients were randomized into two groups.
“The active group massaged essential oils (thyme, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood) in a mixture of carrier oils (jojoba and grapeseed) into their scalp daily.
“The control group used only carrier oils for their massage, also daily.
“Nineteen (44 percent) of 43 patients in the active group showed improvement compared with 6 (15 percent) of 41 patients in the control group.”
The study concluded that use of cedarwood essential oil could help improve hair growth.

Cedarwood essential oil has been scientifically proven to help promote hair growth when combined with a few other natural oils.
A Scottish study at the Department of Dermatology looked into the effects of oils on people with alopecia or thinning hair.
The double-blind study showed an improvement in hair growth by a staggering 44 percent.
The changes were quite noticeable as the patient’s hair was restored in both length and thickness.
Poor circulation to the scalp is one of the leading causes of hair loss and follicles weakening.
Cedar essential oil increases stimulation to help promote hair growth and overall strengthening of the hair.
The oil is also known to protect the scalp from fungal infections which also decrease hair growth.
Cedar’s oil has pesticide qualities which work as an effective solution to funguses which prevent hair loss.
“Essential oils are extracted from plants through methods like distillation or evaporation,” said Healthline.
“While essential oils are most famous for their aromatic capabilities, they also contain strong chemical properties that can be beneficial for health.
“Thyme can help promote hair growth by both stimulating the scalp and actively preventing hair loss.
“Like cedarwood oil, thyme oil was also found to be helpful in treating alopecia areata.”
