Chromebooks, Sketch Pads, Grandma’s Sweater and More Backpack Favorites

Depending on where you are in the United States, you are either in the middle of summer vacation, or gearing up to send the kids back to school. If you are in the latter group then it’s time to start thinking of school supplies. You probably have a list from your kid’s teacher on what to buy, but that’s only part of the story.

In the first video of our “What’s in My Backpack” series, elementary school siblings Phoebe and Hudson walk us through what they take to school every day. Phoebe chose a Wonder Woman lunch box because she has a lasso and “she really wants to use it on her brother.” Art supplies are key for Phoebe who makes sure to pack her crayons, markers, and colored pencils. She never leaves home without her Michelle Obama book for inspiration, though her favorite book that she brings to school is “Hair Love” because she can relate to the message. In fact, a bully at Phoebe’s school said mean things about her hair but this book helped Phoebe stand up for herself.

She also makes sure to pack her headphones (with cat ears, of course) for her Chromebook and a sweater in case she gets cold. The particular sweater she brings is a family heirloom passed down from her Grandmother. And of course, bubbles. Can’t leave home without those!

Phoebe’s brother Hudson joins the video to talk about his backpack (Fortnite) and all the supplies and electronics he brings to school. After showing off his impressive dance moves, Hudson pulls out his sketch pad for drawing anime characters, his snack bag which is his most important item, erasers, scissors, glue sticks, pencils, and a sharpener all make the list. He never leaves home without his Chromebook, both to use for school and because of the games.

Backpacks are more than just for carting around school supplies. They show off personalities and help kids bring what makes them confident. What’s in your backpack?
