Primary school teacher put her type 2 diabetes into remission within 12 weeks

Dr Amir lists diabetes symptoms

Weighing 14 stone at the time, Jane, 48, revealed she had put on weight during the pandemic for numerous reasons.

“My eating became very haphazard,” Jane reflected. “I was caring for my elderly mother and doing the shopping and cooking for two households.”

Jane admitted: “I became a low priority and just grabbed whatever food was convenient, usually carb-heavy and processed foods.”

The Londoner felt lethargic and, overall, terrible, but she “thought about food constantly”.

“I gave into cravings on a whim,” she acknowledged. “I was out of control”.

One of the telling signs of type 2 diabetes, the NHS points out, is polyphagia – an excessive appetite.

Once lockdown restrictions had finally lifted, a quick blood test at the doctor’s clinic revealed Jane had developed type 2 diabetes.

“I was devastated,” Jane said. “My doctor recommended the low-calorie diet to aim for remission.”

Diabetes UK confirms that diabetes remission is achieved by maintaining blood glucose levels below the diabetes range without the use of glucose-lowering medication.

“I started Exante [shakes],” Jane stated, adding that she would have a shake for breakfast and lunch, as well as a healthy evening meal.

The primary school teacher added: “I wasn’t in the right headspace to constantly shop and plan for meals for myself, as well as my mum and my family.

“The Exante shakes meant I had freedom from always thinking about food and planning up to nine meals a day.

“It meant I could focus on my one meal in the evening and truly enjoy it.”

Jane found the Exante shakes would satisfy her appetite, and she found the plan “so convenient” to follow.

After three months, Jane had lost 2st 7lbs – and her blood sugar levels had dipped so much that she had achieved remission.

“I wasn’t in the pre-diabetic range either,” Jane beamed. “The relief was amazing and I have a real sense of accomplishment.”

Jane added: “The Exante shakes have given me my life back. It’s the only diet I’ve stuck to for more than a few weeks, and the results speak for themselves.”
