Athletes do some strange things to get ahead. But this, um, “performance enhancing” claim is particularly peculiar.
Former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco says he used to take Viagra before games to help increase his performance on the field.
Back in July 2020, Ochocinco tweeted the claim himself, stating, “I took Viagra before every game and people thought they’d stop me.” When a fan asked why take Viagra, Ochocinco responded, “NFL tests for steroids. How you gon’ stop me running on three legs every Sunday? No hat.”
On August 4 of 2021, a fan resurfaced the quote, tweeting it to Ochocinco and commenting, “Bruh you really said this? You a fool.” Well, Ochocinco actually responded—and he doubled down on the claim.
“I was dead serious,” the noted player said. “I’d take Viagra then a muscle relaxer before each game. The increase in blood flow throughout the body wouldn’t allow me to get tired [and] I could run for eight quarters if need be, no hat.”
