As women get older so their basic vitamin and nutritional needs will change. With a bombardment of supplements out there promising to be the holy grail, what are the best daily pills for women over 40?
Vitamin K
Vitamin K activates proteins that play a role in blood clotting, calcium metabolism and heart health.
One of its most important functions is to regulate calcium deposition.
In other words, it promotes the calcification of bones and prevents the calcification of blood vessels and kidneys.
Vitamin K has been shown to provide protection against tooth decay and chronic disease.
In a study published in the National Library of Health, vitamins K1 and K2 as essential vitamins required for human health were looked at.
The study’s main message was that vitamin K may be a useful adjunct for the treatment of osteoporosis.
It may also significantly reduce morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular health by reducing vascular calcification.
Vitamin K2 appears promising in the areas of diabetes, cancer, and osteoarthritis.
Probiotics are live microorganisms that can be consumed through fermented foods or supplements.
More and more studies show that the balance or imbalance of bacteria in your digestive system is linked to overall health and disease.
Probiotics promote a healthy balance of gut bacteria and have been linked to a wide range of health benefits.
These include benefits for weight loss, digestive health, immune function and more.
The NHS notes that probiotics are thought to help restore the natural balance of bacteria in your gut.
It has also been suggested that probiotics may help you lose visceral fat.
Having large amounts of visceral fat, or belly fat as it is sometimes referred to, increases a person’s risk of heart attack and stroke.
Other important vitamins recommended by experts for women over 40 include:
- Magnesium
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin B12
- Calcium
- Omega-3 fish oils.
